This guide walks you through every setting available on the AI Meal Analysis page so you can tailor the experience for your clients.
Page Overview
The AI Meal Analysis settings page has a sidebar with three main sections. The Settings section expands into two sub-pages:
Settings → General — Nutrition feedback, calorie breakdown, presets, and live preview
Settings → Advanced — Auto-add to diary, message deletion, and extended nutrients
Client Configuration — Enable/disable meal analysis per client and add custom notes
Analytics — See which clients are using the feature and how often
Upload Links — Retired April 2026. The custom meal upload links feature (
/mealhelp?id=...web page) has been removed. Clients should now use the Trainerize app directly — either by logging a photo in the meal diary (Method 1) or by sending a photo with/mealhelpin chat (Method 2). See How to Use the AI Meal Analysis as a Client for details.
General Settings
Navigate to AI Meal Analysis → Settings → General.
This tab shows a Live Preview of exactly what your clients will receive after scanning a meal. You can toggle features on and off directly inside the preview and see the result in real time.
Nutrition Feedback
When enabled, the AI sends a short personalized comment after every meal analysis — giving clients feedback on their food choices.
You can toggle this on or off using the switch inside the live preview.
When enabled, you choose a preset that controls the tone and focus of the feedback. The available presets are:
Preset | What It Does |
General / Balanced | Highlights positives and suggests one simple improvement. Good for most clients. |
Vegan | Evaluates meals from a plant-based perspective. Suggests vegan alternatives if animal products are detected. |
Keto / Low Carb | Analyzes carb content and keto suitability. Suggests low-carb swaps like cauliflower rice or zucchini noodles. |
Paleo | Reviews meals for whole, unprocessed foods. Flags grains, legumes, and dairy. |
Mediterranean | Assesses alignment with Mediterranean eating — olive oil, fish, whole grains, and heart-healthy fats. |
Custom Prompt | Write your own instructions for how the AI should respond. Full control over tone, length, and focus. |
If you choose Custom Prompt, a text editor appears below the preview. Write your instructions, then click Save Changes.
Calorie Breakdown
When enabled, the AI shows clients how many calories and macros they have remaining for the day after eating the analyzed meal.
This is based on the client's nutrition goals set in Trainerize. Toggle it on or off using the switch in the live preview.
Advanced Settings
Navigate to AI Meal Analysis → Settings → Advanced.
Add Meals to Diary Automatically
When enabled (default), analyzed meals are added directly to the client's Trainerize food diary.
When disabled, meals are saved as Custom Foods only. Clients can then manually add them to their diary whenever they choose.
Delete AI Messages from Trainerize
When enabled, the AI-generated meal analysis messages, nutrition feedback, and summary messages are automatically removed from the Trainerize chat. This keeps the chat clean.
All meal data is still logged to the diary regardless. Only the chat messages are removed.
You can set a Message Deletion Delay (0–60 seconds):
0 seconds — Messages are removed immediately
10–30 seconds (recommended) — Gives clients time to read the analysis before it disappears
60 seconds — Maximum delay
Important: This setting only applies to meals logged via the Trainerize app photo method (Method 1). Messages sent via the /mealhelp chat command (Method 2) are not deleted and will remain in the chat permanently. All meal data is preserved in the diary regardless.
Extended Nutrients
By default, the AI estimates Calories, Protein, Carbs, and Fat for every meal.
You can enable additional nutrients to be estimated and logged to Trainerize custom foods:
Sugar — Total sugar content in grams
Fiber — Dietary fiber in grams
Saturated Fat — Saturated fat content in grams
Sodium — Sodium content in milligrams
Toggle each nutrient individually using the switches in the Advanced Settings tab.
