Using the AI Meal Analysis as a client is incredibly simple—and once you do it a few times, it becomes second nature.
There are two ways to use AI Meal Analysis. Choose whichever is easiest for you:
Method 1: Log a Photo in the Trainerize App (Recommended)
This is the easiest and fastest method — no commands needed. Just take a photo of your food directly in the Trainerize app.
Watch the video walkthrough:
1. Open Trainerize and Click "Add New Meal"
Go to your Trainerize mobile app and tap Add New Meal in the nutrition section.
2. Take a Photo or Choose From Library
Take a live picture of your food, or choose one from your photo library.
3. Click "Review"
Click Review — do NOT add any food items manually. If you add them, the AI analysis won't trigger.
4. Add to the Right Category
Choose the correct meal category:
Breakfast
Lunch
Dinner
Snack
5. (Optional) Add a Description
You can add a text description of the food to help the AI be more accurate. For example: "200g chicken breast, 150g white rice, mixed salad with olive oil"
This is completely optional — the AI will estimate well from just the photo.
6. Log the Food
Tap Log to save the meal.
7. Wait Up to 60 Seconds
After logging, it might take up to 60 seconds for the AI to finish the analysis and update the calories/macros.
It's completely normal to see 0 calories right after logging the food. Just wait a moment and refresh — the AI is working in the background.
Method 2: Send a Photo in Trainerize Chat (/mealhelp)
This is the original method that works inside Trainerize Messages (the chat with your coach).
1. Open Trainerize Messages
Go to your Trainerize mobile app, and tap into the chat with your coach.
2. Add a Meal Photo
Tap the + button and choose:
Take a new photo, or
Upload from your gallery
3. Add the Command: /mealhelp
Before posting the photo, make sure you type:
/mealhelp
This is how the AI knows to analyze the photo.
4. (Optional) Add a Description
Want more accuracy? Include details like:
"200g chicken, 150g rice, 1 tbsp olive oil"
But if you're unsure, no problem—AI will still estimate it well.
5. Post the Message
Click Post to send the meal with the /mealhelp command.
6. Wait 15 Seconds
The AI will reply automatically with a nutrition analysis, including estimated:
Calories
Protein, carbs, and fats
Quick summary of the meal
7. Refresh the Dashboard
Go back to your Trainerize Dashboard and swipe down to refresh.
8. Your Meal Is Logged
You'll now see the meal added to your food diary, usually as:
Breakfast
Lunch
Dinner
Snack
(Assigned based on your local time zone when you posted the photo.)
Which Method Should I Use?
Method 1 (App Photo) | Method 2 (/mealhelp) | |
Speed | Fastest — just snap & go | Fast — requires typing command |
Where | Trainerize Meal Diary | Trainerize Messages (chat) |
Command needed? | No | Yes (/mealhelp) |
Add description? | Optional | Optional (for accuracy) |
Best for | Quick daily logging | When you want coach feedback in chat |
We recommend Method 1 for everyday use — it's the fastest way to log meals consistently.
FAQ: AI Meal Analysis
1. The AI Meal Analysis isn't triggering. What should I check?
The most common reasons are:
You are testing as a coach instead of a client.
The AI Meal Analysis only works when you are logged in as a Trainerize client, not a coach.(Method 1) You manually added food items along with the photo.
The auto-detection only works when the meal has a photo but no food items logged. If you manually add foods, it won't trigger.(Method 1) You see 0 calories right after logging.
This is normal. The AI takes up to 60 seconds to analyze the photo. Wait and refresh.(Method 2) The photo was uploaded in the Meal Diary instead of Messages.
The /mealhelp command only works inside the chat messages with your coach.(Method 2) You forgot to type /mealhelp.
The command is required for Method 2. Without it, the AI won't analyze the photo.
2. The meal is added but appears at the wrong time or on the wrong day. Why?
This is caused by the client's time zone settings in Trainerize.
To fix it:
Open the Trainerize app as a client.
Go to Settings.
Tap My Profile.
Scroll down and check your Time Zone.
Make sure it is correct for your location.
3. Can I change the /mealhelp command to something else?
No. The /mealhelp command is a fixed, system-level command and cannot be changed, renamed, or customized. It is hardcoded into how FitMetrics detects meal analysis requests.
However, your clients can also type /meal as a shorthand — any command starting with /meal will work (e.g., /meal, /mealhelp, /meallog).
Tip: If you don't want your clients to use a command at all, use Method 1 instead — it requires no commands. Clients just log a photo in the Trainerize app and the AI analyzes it automatically.
Final Tips
For Method 1: just add a photo, don't log any food items — let the AI do it
For Method 2: always include /mealhelp or the AI won't analyze it
You don't need to calculate anything—just snap a photo
You can log meals even when eating out or with mixed plates
This is the easiest way to get clients logging food consistently—and it only takes seconds.
