AI Message Drafting generates personalized reply suggestions for your Trainerize client conversations. It reads the recent chat history, pulls in client data like nutrition, workouts, compliance, and wearable stats, then writes a draft in your coaching style. You review, edit if needed, and send — the client never knows AI helped.

How to Trigger an AI Draft

There are two ways to generate an AI draft from the Trainerize Messages page:

Option 1: Press Tab on an empty composer

Click into the message composer and press the Tab key while it is empty. This instantly triggers your default draft type (set to "AI Decides" by default).

Option 2: Click the AI Draft button

Click the AI Draft button in the composer toolbar. A dropdown menu appears with all available draft types. Click any option to generate that specific type of draft.

Once generated, the draft text appears directly in the composer. You can edit it freely, regenerate, or delete it and start over. When you are happy with the message, send it as you normally would.

Draft Types

The AI Draft dropdown gives you five options:

  • AI Decides — The AI analyzes the conversation and picks the best response style automatically. This is the default.

  • Follow Up — Generates a follow-up message that continues the conversation naturally, referencing previous topics.

  • Negative Response — Politely declines or disagrees with something the client said or asked, while maintaining rapport and offering alternatives.

  • Positive Response — Celebrates client progress, matches their positive energy, and reinforces their achievements.

  • Custom — Opens a text box where you type exactly what you want the AI to write about. For example: "Ask about their knee recovery and suggest a modified leg day."

Setting Your Default Tab Type

Each draft type in the dropdown shows a Set Tab button on hover. Click it to make that type your default when pressing Tab. The currently assigned type displays a Tab badge next to it.

What Data the AI Uses

When you trigger a draft, the AI pulls the following client data to write a personalized message:

  • Recent conversation history — The last 10 messages in the thread, used to match tone, language style, and context.

  • Client profile — Name, goals, status, program start date, starting weight, goal weight, and any notes or tags.

  • Training data (last 14 days) — Daily workout completions, calories, protein intake, and weight entries from Trainerize.

  • Weekly compliance — Nutrition compliance percentage, workout compliance percentage, and weight tracking consistency for the last 4 weeks.

  • WHOOP data — If the client has WHOOP connected, the AI sees their last 7 days of recovery scores, sleep hours, and strain data.

  • Coaching team — Names and roles of team members on the account, so the AI knows who is on the team.

  • Your profile — The AI knows which coach is typing and writes in that coach's voice, matching their previous messages in the thread.

Custom Instructions (Personalization)

You can give the AI permanent instructions that apply to every draft it generates. Open the AI Draft dropdown and click Personalization at the bottom.

In the dialog that opens, type your preferences. These override the AI's default tone and style. Examples:

  • Don't use words like "awesome" or "amazing"

  • Keep responses under 3 sentences

  • Always reference their program or plan

  • Use a professional but warm tone

  • Never start messages with "Hey!"

Click Save and your instructions are stored. They apply to all future AI drafts until you change or clear them.

Language and Unit System

Language: The AI writes in your configured AI language preference. It checks the client-level language setting first, then falls back to your business-level setting. If neither is set, it defaults to English.

Units: The AI respects your unit system preference (metric or imperial). All weight, measurement, and nutrition references in the draft will use the correct unit — kilograms or pounds, centimeters or inches.

Plan Availability

AI Message Drafting is available on the Starter and Business plans.

If you are on the Essential plan, you will see an upgrade prompt when you try to use AI Drafting. Upgrade to the Starter or Business plan to unlock this feature. Voice-to-text transcription in the composer also requires the Starter plan or above.

Tips for Better AI Drafts

  • Keep your conversation history active. The more recent messages in the thread, the better the AI matches your tone and context.

  • Use Custom mode for specific topics. If you need to address something particular — like a missed workout or a nutrition question — type it into the Custom prompt instead of relying on AI Decides.

  • Set up Personalization. A few lines of custom instructions go a long way. Tell the AI your communication style and it will follow those rules on every draft.

  • Fill in client profiles. The AI uses goals, notes, tags, and weight data from the client profile. The more complete the profile, the more relevant the draft.

  • Connect WHOOP. If your clients use WHOOP, connecting it gives the AI recovery and sleep data to reference — making drafts more specific and actionable.

  • Always review before sending. AI drafts are a starting point. Read through, adjust anything that does not sound right, and add your personal touch before hitting send.
