The AI Nutrition Targets feature takes the guesswork out of setting calories and macros for your clients. Instead of manually calculating targets, the AI does it for you — using the client's personal data, their recent nutrition history, and your coaching philosophy.
Available on the Starter and Business plans. Not available on the Essential plan.
How to Access AI Nutrition Targets
Open the Trainerize Clients page, then:
Click on a client to open their profile
Go to the Goals & Targets section
Open the Nutrition Targets tab
Click "Generate AI Nutrition Recommendation"
You can also configure your defaults from the AI Nutrition Targets settings page.
What Data Does the AI Need?
The following must be filled in on the client's Trainerize profile:
Gender (male or female)
Age (birth date)
Weight
Height
Goal (fat loss, maintenance, muscle gain, etc.)
All five are required to calculate BMR and TDEE. If any are missing, the AI button will be disabled.
How Does the AI Decide Macros?
The AI considers multiple factors when generating suggestions:
Your Coaching Configuration
You train the AI based on your coaching style. In your AI Nutrition Targets settings you can define:
Your coaching philosophy
Macro preferences (e.g. high protein, moderate carb)
Protein ranges per kg or lb of bodyweight
BMR calculation method
Any special rules or custom instructions
Historical Nutrition Data
The AI analyzes up to 4 weeks of the client's nutrition data, including average intake, adherence to previous goals, and weight trends. This allows it to make smarter, more personalized suggestions rather than relying solely on formulas.
Unit System Support
All calculations and explanations respect your business unit preference — metric (kg, cm) or imperial (lbs, feet/inches). The AI will only use your chosen unit system throughout.
What Does the AI Produce?
For each client, the AI will suggest:
Daily calorie target
Macro breakdown — protein, carbs, and fats in grams and percentages
Detailed coaching rationale — a written explanation of why it chose those specific targets, referencing the client's data, history, and your coaching rules
The explanation is written for coaches, not clients — it is technical and specific so you can review the reasoning before applying the targets.
Benefits
Save time — no more manual calculations for every client
Stay consistent — your coaching philosophy is applied uniformly
Scale faster — handle more clients without sacrificing quality
Data-driven — suggestions improve with more client history
