You can export any client conversation thread as a CSV file directly from the Trainerize Messages page. This is useful for record-keeping, compliance, or reviewing conversation history outside of FitMetrics.

What the Export Includes

Each exported CSV file contains the following columns for every message in the thread:

  • Date — The date the message was sent (YYYY-MM-DD format)

  • Time — The time the message was sent (HH:MM:SS format)

  • Sender — The name of the person who sent the message

  • Message — The full message content

  • Type — Whether the message was Sent or Received

  • Message ID — A unique identifier for each message

How to Export a Conversation

Follow these steps to download a CSV of any conversation thread:

  1. Select a client from the list on the left

  2. Open the conversation thread you want to export

  3. Click the download icon in the toolbar at the top of the conversation

  4. The CSV file will download automatically to your device

Once the export is complete, you will see a confirmation message showing how many messages were exported.

File Naming

The downloaded file follows this naming format:

conversation_{client_name}_thread_{thread_id}_{date}.csv

For example: conversation_john_smith_thread_12345_2026-03-24.csv

CSV Format Details

The CSV is formatted for compatibility with spreadsheet applications like Excel, Google Sheets, and Numbers:

  • All fields are enclosed in double quotes

  • Special characters in messages are automatically cleaned — double quotes are escaped and newlines are replaced with spaces

  • The file uses UTF-8 encoding

Plan Requirement

CSV export is available on the Business plan.

If you are on the Essential or Starter plan, clicking the download icon will show an upgrade prompt. You can upgrade your plan or chat with us directly from that prompt to learn more.
