Connecting a Telegram bot lets you receive notifications about client activity, form submissions, and other business events directly in Telegram. This guide walks you through creating a bot and connecting it to FitMetrics.

Why Connect Telegram?

With Telegram connected, you can:

  • Receive real-time notifications when clients submit forms, log meals, or complete workouts

  • Get alerts for new messages and important client activity

  • Stay updated on the go without opening FitMetrics

Step 1: Create a Telegram Bot

If you don't already have a Telegram bot, you'll need to create one:

  1. Open Telegram and search for @BotFather

  2. Send the command /newbot

  3. Follow the prompts to give your bot a name and username

  4. BotFather will give you a bot token — it looks like this: 1234567890:ABCdefGHIjklMNOpqrsTUVwxyz

  5. Copy this token — you'll need it in the next step

Step 2: Connect the Bot to FitMetrics

  1. Click Connect Telegram

  2. Paste your bot token into the field

  3. Click Connect

FitMetrics will verify the token with Telegram's API and register a webhook automatically. Once connected, you'll see your bot's name, username, and Bot ID displayed on the page.

Step 3: Set Up Telegram for Team Members

Each team member can receive personal Telegram notifications by linking their Telegram ID in the Team Members settings.

  1. Click the three dots under Actions for the team member

  2. Click Edit Member

  3. Enter their Telegram ID (a numeric ID, not a username)

  4. Save changes

To find your Telegram ID, message @userinfobot on Telegram — it will reply with your numeric ID.

Step 4: Test the Connection

Once connected, use the Test Messages section on the Telegram integration page to send a test notification. This verifies that your bot can successfully deliver messages.

Bot Information

After connecting, you can see:

  • Bot name and username

  • Bot ID

  • Can Join Groups — whether the bot can be added to group chats

  • Last sync — when the bot information was last verified

Click the Sync button in the top right to refresh bot information at any time.

Disconnecting Telegram

To disconnect the integration:

  1. Scroll to the Disconnect Integration section

  2. Click Disconnect Telegram and confirm

This will stop all Telegram notifications. You can reconnect at any time by entering a bot token again.

Permissions

  • Owners and Admins can connect, disconnect, sync, and test the Telegram integration

  • Coaches and Managers can view the integration status but cannot modify settings
