Once you've assigned Smart Habits to clients, you can manage them from the Smart Habits page. This article covers how to view, edit, delete, and manage the duration of your habits.
The Habits Editor
Click the Habits Editor button at the top of the Smart Habits page to open a panel showing all your Smart Habits in one place.
The editor has two sections:
Built-in Templates — the 3 default Smart Habits (Daily Outlook, Nutrition Report Card, Daily Motivation)
Your Custom Smart Habits — any habits you've created
Click View AI Prompt on any habit to expand and see the full prompt that the AI uses when generating messages for clients.
Creating a New Smart Habit
You can create a new Smart Habit in two ways:
Click + Create in the Habits Editor — this creates the habit in your library without assigning it to anyone yet
Click + on a client and use the Custom tab — this creates the habit and assigns it at the same time
When creating a custom habit, you'll fill in:
Habit Name — give it a clear name (tip: start with a lightning bolt to mark it as a Smart Habit)
Description (optional) — explain when the client should complete it
Enable AI Response — toggle this on to have the AI send personalized messages on completion
AI Prompt — tell the AI what kind of message to generate. The AI will combine your prompt with the client's real data (goals, nutrition, workouts, streaks) to create a unique response every time.
Editing a Smart Habit
You can edit the name and AI prompt of any of your custom Smart Habits.
Click Habits Editor at the top of the page
Find the habit you want to change
Click the Edit button
Update the Habit Name or AI Prompt
Click Save Changes
Changes apply to all future AI responses. Messages already sent to clients are not affected.
The edit screen also shows a reminder of what data the AI has access to: the client's unit system (metric/imperial), goals, body stats, recent nutrition data, and workout history.
Deleting a Smart Habit from Your Library
To permanently remove a custom Smart Habit from your library:
Open the Habits Editor
Click the Delete button on the habit you want to remove
Confirm the deletion
This removes the habit from your library, but clients who already have it assigned will keep it. Their existing assignments are not affected.
Removing Habits from a Client
To remove a specific habit from a single client:
In Table View, click the X on the habit badge next to the client's name
Confirm the removal
The habit will be removed from the client's Trainerize app and they will no longer see it.
Bulk Deleting Habits
To remove habits from multiple clients at once:
Select the clients using the checkboxes in the table
Click Delete Habits
Choose one of two options:
All Habits — removes every habit (Smart Habits and Trainerize habits) from the selected clients
Specific Habit — pick one habit to remove. The dropdown shows each habit with a count of how many selected clients have it.
Understanding Duration Badges
Each habit badge on the table shows the weeks remaining (e.g., "5w"). The badge color changes as the habit approaches its end date:
Badge Color | Meaning |
Gray | More than 2 weeks remaining |
Yellow | 2 weeks or fewer remaining |
Red | 1 week or fewer remaining |
In Timeline View, you can hover over any habit bar to see a tooltip with the habit name, weeks remaining, and number of days tracked.
When Duration Expires
When a habit's duration runs out, it does not automatically disappear. The habit stays assigned to the client until you manually remove it.
You have two options:
Extend the duration — click on the habit badge and choose to add + 4 weeks, + 8 weeks, or + 12 weeks (3 months)
Remove the habit — click the X on the badge to remove it from the client, or use bulk delete for multiple clients
Use the badge colors as a signal to review which clients have habits ending soon, so you can decide whether to extend or wrap up.
