Smart Habits are AI-powered habits that you assign to clients. When a client completes a Smart Habit in Trainerize, the AI automatically generates and sends a personalized message — a daily briefing, nutrition feedback, motivational boost, or whatever you configure.
Available on the Starter and Business packages.
Where to Find It
Go to Smart Habits in the AI Features section of the sidebar.
You'll see two views:
Table View — lists all clients with their assigned habits as colored badges. Each badge shows the habit name and weeks remaining.
Timeline View — a horizontal calendar showing habit assignments over time. Each habit appears as a colored bar spanning its duration, with green checkmarks on days the client completed it. Scroll horizontally to navigate months, or click Today to jump to the current date.
Toggle between views using the Table and Timeline buttons in the top-right corner.
Filtering and Searching
Use the toolbar at the top of the page to narrow down your client list:
Search — type a client's name or email to filter results instantly
Trainer filter — select a specific trainer to show only their assigned clients, or choose "All Trainers" to see everyone
Smart View filter — if you have saved Smart Views, select one to filter clients by that view's criteria
All filters work together. For example, you can search by name while filtering by a specific trainer and Smart View at the same time.
How to Assign a Habit
Click the + button on any client's row (or select multiple clients and click Assign to X)
Choose from 3 tabs:
Tab 1: Smart Habit (AI-Powered)
Select from pre-built templates or your own custom Smart Habits. The list is split into two sections:
Templates — the 3 built-in Smart Habits (Daily Outlook, Nutrition Report Card, Daily Motivation)
Your Custom Smart Habits — any habits you've created yourself
You can select multiple habits at once. Each selected habit will be assigned to the client(s) with the schedule you configure.

Tab 2: Custom
Create your own habit with a custom name, description, and AI prompt. Toggle Enable AI Response to have the AI send personalized messages when the client completes it. If AI is off, it behaves as a standard Trainerize habit with no AI message.
When AI is enabled, you write the prompt that tells the AI exactly what kind of message to generate. The AI combines your prompt with the client's real data (goals, nutrition, workouts, streaks) to create a unique response every time.
Tab 3: Trainerize Habit
Assign from 19 standard Trainerize habit types: Eat Protein, Eat Vegetables, Drink Only Zero Calorie Drinks, Practice Eating Slowly, Follow Portion Guide, Take More Active Route, Digital Detox One Hour Before Bed, and more. These are standard tracking habits with no AI response.
Scheduling Options
When assigning, configure:
Start Date — when the habit begins (default: today)
Duration — how many weeks, from 1 to 52 (default: 12 weeks)
Days of Week — toggle Mon through Sun (default: all 7 days). You must select at least one day.
Badge colors on the table show how much time is left:
Gray badge — more than 2 weeks remaining
Yellow badge — 2 weeks or fewer remaining
Red badge — 1 week or fewer remaining
Each badge also displays the weeks remaining as a small number (e.g., "5w").
How It Works for the Client
The habit appears in the client's Trainerize app on their assigned days
The client taps to mark it complete
For AI-powered Smart Habits: FitMetrics generates a personalized AI message and sends it to the client via Trainerize chat
For standard habits: completion is tracked but no AI message is sent
The AI has access to the client's goals, nutrition logs, workout schedule, body stats, and current streak — so every message is tailored to their actual data, not generic advice.

The Habits Editor
Click the Habits Editor button at the top of the page to open a panel where you can view and manage all your Smart Habits in one place.
The editor shows two sections:
Built-in Templates — the 3 default Smart Habits. Expand any template to view its full AI prompt.
Your Custom Smart Habits — any habits you've created. Each one has Edit and Delete buttons, and you can expand to view the AI prompt.
Use the + Create button in the custom section to build a new Smart Habit without assigning it to anyone yet. You can assign it to clients later from the main page.
Bulk Actions
Bulk assign — select multiple clients using the checkboxes, then click Assign to X to give them all the same habit(s)
Bulk delete — select multiple clients and click Delete Habits to remove habits from all of them at once. You can choose to remove all habits or pick a specific habit to remove.
Duration and Expiration
When a habit's duration runs out, it does not automatically disappear. The habit stays assigned until you manually remove it.
This means you can:
Extend the duration at any time by clicking on the habit badge and choosing to add + 4 weeks, + 8 weeks, or + 12 weeks (3 months)
Remove expired habits when you're ready by clicking the X on the badge or using bulk delete
Keep an eye on the badge colors — yellow and red badges tell you which clients have habits ending soon so you can decide whether to extend or remove them.
