What Are Trainerize Groups and How to Use Them

A complete overview of Trainerize Groups in FitMetrics — what they are, how to access them, key features, and how they compare to Broadcast Messages.

Written by Xenios Charalambous

Trainerize Groups let you create and manage group conversations where multiple clients and coaches interact together — all directly inside FitMetrics. You can send messages, share files, view activity timelines, manage members, and even post leaderboard results to groups.

Unlike Broadcast Messages (which send individual messages to each client privately), Groups are shared conversations where everyone in the group sees the same messages.

Where to Find Groups

Click Trainerize Groups in the sidebar under Management. You'll see all group chats your business has.

Page Layout

The Groups page uses a three-panel layout:

  • Left panel — Your groups list with a toggle between My Groups and All Groups, and a + button to create new groups

  • Center panel — The message thread for the selected group, with a composer at the bottom

  • Right panel (collapsible) — Three tabs: Timeline, Members, and Files

What You Can Do

  • Create groups — create new groups directly in FitMetrics with a custom name and emoji icon

  • Manage groups — rename, delete, join, or leave groups via the group menu

  • Send messages — type messages with @mention support to tag specific members

  • Share files — attach images, PDFs, Word docs, Excel files, CSV, and TXT files

  • React to messages — use emoji reactions (Thumbs Up, Cheer, Confetti, High Five, Taunts, Thumbs Down)

  • Delete messages — remove messages you've sent

  • View activity timeline — see completed workouts, cardio, nutrition, habits, and body stats from group members

  • Manage members — view all members and promote or demote trainers to Leader role

  • Configure settings — set notification preferences, post permissions, and auto-post options

  • Browse shared files — view and download all files shared in the group

  • Post leaderboards — share competition results with podium images directly to a group

Use Cases

  • Community building — create a group for all clients to share wins and motivate each other

  • Program cohorts — group clients who started the same program together

  • Challenges — run fitness challenges with a dedicated group chat

  • VIP clients — create an exclusive group for premium clients

  • Team communication — coordinate between coaches in a staff group
