Best Practices for AI Workout Creation

Tips for choosing the right form options, writing effective coaching notes, and getting the best AI-generated workout programs.

Getting the best results from the AI Workout Builder comes down to selecting the right options and using the additional notes field effectively. Here are tips to create better programs for your clients.

Choose the Right Form Options

  • Match the experience level to the client's actual training history โ€” overestimating leads to programs that are too intense

  • Be specific with equipment selection. If they train at home with just dumbbells, pick "Dumbbells Only" rather than "Home Gym"

  • Use circuits and supersets intentionally: Some Supersets with No Circuits is a good default for intermediate clients. Full Supersets works well for advanced clients with limited time

  • Remember: Full Supersets automatically disables circuits, and Some Supersets disallows Full Circuits

Use the Additional Notes Field

The notes field (up to 300 characters) is your way to give the AI specific coaching instructions.

Good examples:

  • "Focus on compound movements, limit isolation work"

  • "Include hip mobility warm-up exercises"

  • "Avoid overhead pressing โ€” client has shoulder impingement"

  • "Progressive overload focus, start conservative on weights"

  • "Include 10-min cardio finisher on upper body days"

Bad examples: Long paragraphs, vague instructions like "make it hard", or conflicting goals.

Upload Gym Photos for Better Accuracy

  • You can upload up to 5 photos of the client's gym or equipment setup

  • The AI analyzes the photos to understand exactly what machines and tools are available

  • This is especially useful when the client has an unusual home setup or a boutique gym with limited equipment

  • Clear, well-lit photos showing the full equipment area work best

Custom Exercises vs Trainerize Library

  • The Trainerize Library is the default and covers a wide range of standard exercises

  • Use Custom Exercises when you have your own exercise database with specific naming conventions or proprietary movements

  • Custom Exercises requires at least 25 synced exercises to work properly (50+ recommended for better variety)

  • You can manage custom exercises in Custom Exercises Settings

Edit Coaching Cues Before Sending

  • After the AI generates the program, review it in the Preview tab

  • Click on any exercise's notes to add coaching cues (e.g., "Squeeze at the top", "3-second eccentric", "Keep elbows tucked")

  • This personalizes the program beyond what the AI generates and shows up in the client's Trainerize app

After Sending to Trainerize

  • The program is automatically created and scheduled on the client's calendar in Trainerize

  • You can still make manual adjustments directly inside Trainerize after sending

  • If you need to regenerate, go back to the Form tab, adjust your selections, and generate again
