The AI Nutrition Targets configuration page lets you control exactly how the AI calculates and suggests macros for your clients. You can set your preferred BMR formula, macro distribution, protein ranges, personalization factors, and custom rules -- so every suggestion matches your coaching style. This feature is available on the Starter and Business plans.

Getting There

Open your AI Nutrition Targets settings page. You can also reach it from the AI Features hub by clicking into Nutrition Targets.

At the top of the page, a status indicator shows whether AI Nutrition Targets is currently enabled or disabled. Click Change to toggle the feature on the AI Features page.

Coaching Philosophy

The Nutrition Coaching Philosophy text area is where you describe your overall approach to nutrition. The AI reads this before generating any suggestion.

Examples of what to write here:

  • "We focus on flexible dieting and sustainable habits."

  • "We prioritize high protein, low carb approaches for our clients."

  • "For fat loss, I start clients at 11x bodyweight in calories. For maintenance, 14x."

Macro Distribution Preferences

Three dropdown menus let you set your default preference for each macronutrient. The AI uses these as a starting point when generating targets.

Protein Preference

  • Low -- 0.8-1.2 g/kg (0.4-0.5 g/lb)

  • Moderate -- 1.2-1.8 g/kg (0.5-0.8 g/lb)

  • High -- 1.8-2.5 g/kg (0.8-1.1 g/lb)

  • Very High -- 2.5-3.0 g/kg (1.1-1.4 g/lb)

Carbohydrate Preference

  • Very Low (Keto) -- less than 50 g

  • Low -- 50-100 g

  • Moderate -- 30-40% of calories

  • High -- 50-60% of calories

Fat Preference

  • Low -- 15-20% of calories

  • Moderate -- 25-35% of calories

  • High -- 40-60% of calories

  • Very High (Keto) -- 65-75% of calories

Protein Range Slider

Below the macro dropdowns, a two-handle slider lets you fine-tune your preferred protein range in grams per unit of bodyweight.

  • Metric users see the range in g/kg, from 0.8 to 3.0.

  • Imperial users see the range in g/lb, from 0.4 to 1.4.

Drag the left handle to set the minimum and the right handle to set the maximum. The current range is displayed to the right of the label. The unit system follows your account-wide preference.

BMR Calculation Method

Choose the formula the AI uses to estimate each client's base metabolic rate (BMR). This is the foundation of all calorie calculations.

  • Mifflin-St Jeor (Recommended) -- The most widely validated formula for the general population. Uses age, weight, height, and gender.

  • Harris-Benedict -- A classic formula. Slightly higher estimates than Mifflin-St Jeor for some populations.

  • Katch-McArdle -- Uses lean body mass instead of total weight. Best when body composition data is available.

Personalization Factors

Four toggle switches let you control which client data the AI factors into its calculations. All four are enabled by default.

  • Use gender-specific calculations -- Apply different calculation methods based on the client's gender.

  • Consider body composition when available -- Use body fat percentage when calculating targets, if the data exists for that client.

  • Consider activity level -- Adjust calorie calculations based on the client's reported activity level.

  • Consider fitness experience -- Adjust recommendations based on how long the client has been training.

Turn off any toggle if you prefer the AI to ignore that factor.

Advanced Custom Instructions

The Advanced Custom Instructions text area is for specific rules or overrides that go beyond the standard settings above. The AI applies these on top of everything else.

Examples:

  • "Always recommend at least 25g of fiber daily."

  • "For weight loss, use a 20% calorie deficit instead of the default 15%."

  • "For clients over 50, reduce protein recommendations by 10%."

Saving Your Configuration

Click the Save Configuration button at the bottom of the page. A confirmation message will appear when your settings are saved. All future AI-generated nutrition suggestions will follow your updated configuration.

Once configured, every time you use AI Nutrition Suggestions for a client, the AI will follow your coaching rules, macro preferences, and custom instructions -- not generic defaults. This means faster onboarding, consistent recommendations across your team, and suggestions that match how you actually coach.
